Copying a page template

If there is an existing page template that you want to use as the starting point for a new page template, you can copy the existing the page template, then edit the copy, rather than create a completely new page template.

NoteTo copy a page template, you must have at least one of the following privileges:

To copy a page template:

  1. In the Navigator, click Copy next to the page template that you want to copy.

  2. In the Name field, enter a name for the new page template.

    Note: The name is used internally and for direct access URLs. The name can contain only alphanumeric characters (A-Z, a-z, 0-9) and the underscore (_) character. Do not use spaces or other special characters.

  3. In the Display Name field, enter a descriptive name for the new page template.

  4. Select Copy Access Control if you want the new page template to have the same privileges as the original page template.

  5. Select Copy Content if you want to copy the portlets and items in the original page template. If you do not select this box, only the properties (including the page style) and the region configuration of the template are copied into the new template.

  6. If you select Copy Content, select Copy Portlet Customizations if you want to copy any customizations that users have been made to the portlets on the original page template. Any customizations made on the original page template after the new page template is created will not affect the portlets on the new page template.

    If you do not select this check box, the portlets on the new page template are reset to their default values. Any customizations made to the portlets on the original page template (before or after the new page template is created) will not be applied to the portlets on the new page template.

  7. Click OK to create the new page template.
