An example of Youth Commitment
11-07-2015
After participating at Youth meeting which took place on the eve of the 12th Mediterranean Conference in the Republic of San Marino, and which was attended by two representatives of the Croatian Red Cross, we were surprised by the opportunities that we identified thanks to the exchange of knowledge and experience and the introduction of strategic documents that could serve as guidelines for our future work.
We came up with a model for the future work of Croatian Red Cross (CRC) Youth. Given the lack of a clear strategy, guidelines and a common solid structure, we first adjusted the IFRC's 2011 Youth Policy to our legislative frameworks. We also translated Y.E.S. where we maintained part of the original text, but had partially adjusted it to meet our capacities and needs. We used the document that has emerged as a conclusion of the Youth meeting. Once we had established a strategic framework, we started to write an operational plan that includes organizational structure and work plan of CRC Youth. The structure includes 111 local youth coordinators from each of the local RC branches. Together they constitute the CRC Youth Assembly who elects from among themselves representatives for the CRC Youth Committee and the President of the CRC Youth. We intend to hold the Assembly meetings once a year, and Committee meetings 3-4 times a year. An online group of local youth coordinators shall be established and used for communication, joint decision-making, exchange of experience and further activity planning. All the mentioned bodies and structures have the duty and obligation to strengthen cooperation with the leadership of their local RC branch, the obligation to inform other young people in their local community as well as the CRC National Society Youth Department. In the work plan we have included all the activities that we intend to conduct systematically, and they include professional development of young people and more systematic implementation of the existing and new activities at the local, regional and national level. Our Secretary General supported the plan for future work, and shall present the proposed changes to the Governing Board in September. We thus tried to put in use the strategic guidelines of the Y.E.S. and create an environment for better developed youth work and thus contribute to strengthening of our National Society.
