The Spanish Red Cross belongs to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which promotes the humanitarian activities of National Societies in favor of vulnerable people.

Through the coordination of international disaster relief and the promotion of development assistance, it is proposed to prevent and alleviate human suffering.

The Federation, the National Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross together constitute the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF THE INTERNATIONAL MOVEMENT OF THE RED CROSS AND RED CRESCENT

The Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which has given rise to the concern to provide assistance, without discrimination, to all those injured in the battlefields, strives, under its international and national aspect, to prevent and relieve the suffering of men in all circumstances. It tends to protect life and health, as well as to respect the human person. It promotes mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation and lasting peace among all peoples
It does not make any distinction of nationality, race, religion, social status or political creed. It is dedicated solely to help individuals in proportion to their suffering, remedying their needs and giving priority to the most urgent.
In order to maintain the confidence of all, the Movement refrains from taking part in hostilities and, at all times, in controversies of a political, racial, religious or ideological nature.
The Movement is independent. Auxiliary of the public authorities in their humanitarian activities and subject to the laws that govern the respective countries, the National Societies must, nevertheless, preserve an autonomy that allows them to always act in accordance with the principles of the Movement.
It is a voluntary relief movement and of a disinterested nature.
In each country there can only be one Red Cross or Red Crescent Society, which must be accessible to all and extend its humanitarian action to the entire territory.
The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, in which all Societies have the same rights and duty to help each other, is universal.
